Commentary

o-stem patronym in the dative derived with the suffix -alo- from a i̯o-stem personal name biu̯onti̯os, which is formed from the present participle in -nt- of the root biu̯- 'the living one' (already Danielsson 1909: 16, Rhŷs 1913: 8). See the morpheme page for attestations of the root; the present participle is also attested in piuot (also without spelling of /n/) and piuonta (with ⟨n⟩). See Lejeune 1971: 52, 62, n. 186, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 135, Motta 2000: 201.
