Commentary

and-are-vitso-, ending -eos patronymic suffix? (cp. Lejeune 1971: 41 fn. 102, KGP: 52, Bannert 1976: 48 fn. 9, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 150, Delamarre 2007: 20, 211, 236, Markey & Mees 2003: 139-140, Uhlich 2007: 384). *pori- > are-, compare Gaul. Ariouistus (Lejeune 1971: 41, 54, Stifter 2010: 371, cp. Tibiletti Bruno 1965b: 566 fn. 39, DLG: 52, Holder 1896-1907: I 188, III 664, CCCG: 4, 26, 68, 260). For and-are see also anarekartos. See also Poccetti 2018, who compares anare- with the (philologically reconstructed) ethnonym anares in Polybios (south of Piacenza) – the identification is incompatible with the analysis of the sequence as a prefix syntagma.
